GRØNE MANUEEL ONE

'SJEF'S ONE'

"For GRØNE's first timepiece, we have chosen a manual movement. We want the customer to be engaged with its mechanics. Each morning, the owner will be reminded of the intricate manual movement within."

The GRØNE MANUEEL ONE - nicknamed 'Sjef's One' - is the brand's first timepiece. A manual winding mechanical watch, it is dedicated by the brothers to their father Sjef Grönefeld, along with the launch of the new brand, on November 5th.

It features a tremblage salmon dial at the centre surrounded by a two-step brushed rhodium-plated dial diamond-cut at every edge. Highly polished diamond-cut batons that serve as hour markers are individually hand-applied with an overhang at the tip that optically floats above the tremblage salmon centre - providing incredible depth and dimensionality to the dial. The applied metallic GRØNE logo has a 3-dimensional effect. The words "Oldenzaal”, ”Manueel" and “Netherlands” are printed coherently with the same vibrant shade of blue as the hands, adding to its charm.

The dial is then covered with a scratch-resistant sapphire crystal that has an anti-reflective coating on both sides. The watch features a finished and decorated Swiss-made manual winding caliber SW210 that has been torque-adjusted to a ‘just right’ crown-winding feel that the brothers prefer. A hacking seconds mechanism is also featured on the watch.

Priced at 2,150 Euros (excluding VAT/duties/shipping), the GRØNE Manueel One 'Sjef's One' is limited to 388 instances and will be available for order on 19 November 2024, 3.00PM Amsterdam CET.
Deliveries start December 2024.

“It is a beautiful stainless steel manual wound watch, 38.5mm in size and quite slim at 9mm (excl sapphire), making it very comfortable on the wrist. For us, we think that it's a beautiful size for people around the world. We chose a hand-wound watch because it gives a lot of feeling to the customer. The customer, every morning, feels extra connected because he has to wind this watch. So the connection to the watch, the connection to a traditional mechanical watch, is very much there with this watch.”

The Brothers on the new manueel one
Play

An engraved solid caseback hides a decorated Swiss-made mechanical manual winding movement. The engraving is that of an ancient map of Oldenzaal from 1626, with the Grönefeld logo marking the current location of the brothers' atelier. The miniaturisation, in high-definition of an old map onto metal was incredibly hard to do, and had to be redrawn line-by-line. to achieve the desired effect the brothers wanted. The choice of a solid caseback for the watch is deeply rooted in their desire to showcase their hometown Oldenzaal. It is a reminder of their beginnings and pays tribute to their heritage as the third generation of watchmakers, continuing a legacy that began with their grandfather and spans over a century of watchmaking. It allows collectors to carry a piece of Oldenzaal with them.

At the periphery is engraved a Dutch saying: “ZOALS HET KLOKJE THUIS TIKT – TIKT HET NERGENS,” which translates to: "AS THE CLOCK TICKS AT HOME – IT TICKS AT ITS BEST" It is a reminder of the warmth and familiarity of home - both of the Grönefelds, and the wearer’s own home. The caseback serves as a design element as well as a narrative touchstone of one’s heritage and the essence of home.

THE DIAL

The Manueel One features a tremblage salmon dial at the centre surrounded by a two-step brushed rhodium-plated dial with a diamond-cut at every edge.

THE CASE

The Manueel One's 38.5mm case takes inspiration from the Grönefeld 1941 case first introduced in the award-winning Remontoire and Principia series.

“An evolution of the 1941 case design, the bezel of the Manueel One has dome surfaces between the lugs, but concave on the side of the case. The crown is typical to our brand. It is very conical, which makes it more comfortable while winding. On the side, it has the GRØNE brothers logo, which signifies us, the two brothers.”

Measuring 38.5mm and a very restrained height of 9mm (excl sapphire), it is milled in stainless steel and is polished to a very high degree.

THE MOVEMENT

"For GRØNE's first timepiece, we have chosen a manual movement. We want the customer to be engaged with its mechanics. Each morning, the owner will be reminded of the intricate manual movement within."

The GRØNE Manueel One leverages a decorated Swiss-made manual winding caliber SW210 that has been torque-adjusted to a ‘just right’ crown-winding feel that the brothers prefer.

The movement has a power reserve of 42 hours and is water-resistant to 5 atmostpheres.

Johannes 'Sjef' Grönefeld

GRØNE is introduced to the world on Sjef's birthday and its first ever watch - the Manueel One 'Sjef's One' - is dedicated to him.

Johannes Grönefeld, known locally as ‘Sjef’, was born on 5th November 1941 in Oldenzaal. The Grönefeld family continue to own and operate the workshop and boutique on Steenstraat established by Sjef's father Johan. It was within the confines of their grandfather’s workshop that Bart and Tim would play as children to the metronomic sounds of ticking clocks and watches. Hearing the seductive sounds of pallet levers at play proved too much for the ‘Horological brothers’ and they vowed to continue the work of their forebears.
