"In the early days, our friends always called us “GRØNE Boys” or “GRØNE Brothers”. The name “GRØNE” is a nickname for Grönefeld. The name was also printed on Bart’s windsurf harness. It is written as GRØNE, with a slash in the O, which is more like a Norwegian or Scandinavian O rather than the Dutch way. The ø is pronounced as "eu" in the French word bleu."

GRØNE aims to make its timepieces accessible to a wider audience, a goal that necessitated strategic outsourcing partnerships capable of delivering premium workmanship. GRØNE remains committed to excellence through stringent in-house quality control measures. This meticulous process, directly overseen by the brothers, guarantees that each component meets the brand’s rigorous standards.
When Tim and Bart conceived the idea of creating GRØNE, they were determined to engage the younger generation in the appreciation of mechanical watches. Recognising that the younger audience grew up in the smartwatch ecosystem, they aimed to share the joy of mechanical watches with them. From the ticking of the hands to the way the crown moves, both brothers believed that “Mechanical watches really have a heart and a soul”.
GRØNE represents a heartfelt connection to heritage and a commitment to accessibility. It honours the rich watchmaking traditions of Grönefeld. GRØNE wants to connect with the younger generation of watch collectors, through its story and history. By intertwining the stories of its origins with its signature design, it invites current and new watch collectors to experience the soul of watches. While led and overseen by the brothers, GRØNE is distinct and separate from their atelier watch brand Grönefeld.
