GRØNE

"In the early days, our friends always called us “GRØNE Boys” or “GRØNE Brothers”. The name “GRØNE” is a nickname for Grönefeld. The name was also printed on Bart’s windsurf harness. It is written as GRØNE, with a slash in the O, which is more like a Norwegian or Scandinavian O rather than the Dutch way. The ø is pronounced as "eu" in the French word bleu."

Bart Grönefeld

“When we first thought of creating GRØNE, we wanted to get the younger generation into mechanical watches. We feel that mechanical watches - especially manual winding ones - really have a heart and a soul and we want to share that with the next generation. For us, this is like creating a baby. When our own babies - our children aged 16-20yo - came to see the Manueel 1 for the first time, they really loved it as well."

Tim Grönefeld

"With GRØNE we aim to create something that’s more accessible while pushing the boundaries of what the brand can achieve. First, we want to see the reaction of the people. I think most of them will be surprised. Through GRØNE, we hope to bring excitement and surprises to our customers and fans.”

The Grönefeld brothers are award winning watchmakers with an impressive trophy case including multiple Grand Prix d'Horlogerie de Genève awards, including awards from chrono24, Emporis, SIAR and Timezone, amongst many others.

GRØNE aims to make its timepieces accessible to a wider audience, a goal that necessitated strategic outsourcing partnerships capable of delivering premium workmanship. GRØNE remains committed to excellence through stringent in-house quality control measures. This meticulous process, directly overseen by the brothers, guarantees that each component meets the brand’s rigorous standards.

When Tim and Bart conceived the idea of creating GRØNE, they were determined to engage the younger generation in the appreciation of mechanical watches. Recognising that the younger audience grew up in the smartwatch ecosystem, they aimed to share the joy of mechanical watches with them. From the ticking of the hands to the way the crown moves, both brothers believed that “Mechanical watches really have a heart and a soul”.
